Mark B. Taylor, M.D.

Dr. Taylor has always maintained the vision that the human side of medicine is a critical part of the doctor-patient relationship. This belief continues to be a driving force for him. While completing his undergraduate work at the University of Rochester, Dr. Taylor simultaneously completed a Masters Degree in gerontology (the study of aging) from the University of Chicago. He also worked as an aide and did gerontology research in nursing homes prior to going to medical school. He earned his Medical Degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts and he completed his internships and residency in internal medicine at Michael Reese Hospital, which is affiliated with the University of Chicago. Dr. Taylor became Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He then completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Beth Israel Hospital, which is part of Harvard Medical School in Boston. Dr. Taylor became Board Certified in Gastroenterology and has practiced in New Haven for twenty years.

Dr. Taylor took his vision of a "kinder and gentler" gastroenterology practice and made it a reality by becoming one of the founding partners to create the Gastroenterology Center of Connecticut and the Endoscopy Center of Connecticut in 1997. The practice is based on a philosophy that patients deserve the utmost respect and compassion.

Dr. Taylor brings a strong academic background to this group. He is an attending physician at Yale New Haven Hospital as well as an Assistant Clinical Professor. He served as Chief of Gastroenterology at Milford Hospital from 1999-2001. Dr. Taylor is also an active member of the American Medical Association, the Connecticut State Medical Society, the New Haven Medical Association, the American Gastroenterology Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. In addition, Dr. Taylor was selected, by other physicians, as one of the Best Doctors in Connecticut thirteen years in a row.

Dr. Taylor is also well known as editor-in-chief of two major textbooks in the field of gastroenterology. Gastrointestinal Emergencies (Volume One) was published in 1992 and Volume Two was published in 1997. They are textbooks with over 1000 pages, 125 contributors from around the world, and have also been translated into Chinese. These books were acclaimed in the major gastroenterology journals. Dr. Taylor was not only editor-in-chief but he authored many of the chapters as well.
