A native of Philadelphia, Dr. Hass attended Cornell University where he earned an undergraduate degree in Biology. He then attended the Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City to obtain his medial degree. During medical school, he was very involved in serving those without access to healthcare through his efforts in directing a free health clinic for homeless individuals. Upon graduation, Dr. Hass was elected by his peers to receive the "Good Physician Award," given each year to the graduating medical student who best exemplifies the intangible qualities of a good physician.
He then continued his medical education in Philadelphia, where he completed his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University Pennsylvania. During residency, Dr. Hass conducted and published clinical research on various topics, including the effect of obesity on the clinical course of Crohn's Disease, as well as the safety and governmental regulation of dietary supplements. As a resident, Dr. Hass was privileged to have the opportunity to present his research at the American College of Gastroenterology national meeting and to have his research published in two peer-reviewed academic journals. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Hass received both the prestigious Penn Pearls Teaching Award and the Maurice F. Attie Teaching Award for his exceptional dedication to teaching clinical medicine to both medical students and residents.
Dr. Hass' passion for gastroenterology continued to grow during his fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York. Selected to attend several exclusive conferences, Dr. Hass continued his research efforts in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and also studied the causes of pharmacologically induced ischemic colitis. A highlight of his fellowship training was the rare opportunity to author a new chapter entitled "Complementary and Alternative Medicine Therapies in Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Disease," published in a widely read and referenced gastroenterology textbook. This has fostered a strong interest in Dr. Hass to incorporate this knowledge base in the treatment of his patients, as an adjunct to conventional medicine in helping to alleviate patient symptoms.
Dr. Hass is board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine with specialty interests that include Inflammatory Bowel disease, liver disease, disorders of the gallbladder and biliary tract, pancreatic diseases, and complementary and alternative therapies in the treatment of gastrointestinal and hepatic disease.
Dr. Hass is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
He is affiliated with the Hospital of St. Raphael, Yale-New Haven Hospital, and Milford Hospital. Dr. Hass cares for patients in the Hamden and Milford Offices.
